Different Types of Flame Retardant Fabric Have Different Functions

flame retardant fabric

In our impression, the flame retardant fabric is not burning, but it is not burning. It will be put out immediately after leaving the flame. At the same time, there are corresponding flame retardant standards for reference, such as EN11611, EN11612, EN14116, NFPA2112, NFPA70E and so on.

Flame retardant fabric is divided into fiber flame retardant fabric and post-treatment flame retardant fabric.

Flame retardant fabric, also known as permanent flame retardant fabric, is mainly made of flame retardant fiber woven into blank fabric. The flame retardant effect is permanent. This kind of flame retardant fabric will shrink and carbonize in case of fire. It will be extinguished after the fire source leaves. It does not melt drip or smoke and will not produce secondary combustion.

Disposable flame retardant fabric, that is, ordinary fabric is treated with flame retardant agent in the later dyeing and finishing to achieve the flame retardant effect, and its biggest drawback is that the flame retardant effect disappears or obviously declines after washing. Usually this kind of flame retardant fabric is applied in some occasions with less washing times, such as hotel curtains.

Durable flame retardant fabric, usually produced by "proban" process, is treated with a kind of finishing flame retardant after durability of cotton fiber and its blended fabric. Its main feature is that the flame retardant fabric can maintain good flame retardant capability after being washed less than 50 times.

As can be seen from the above, the initial flame retardant performance of the three types of flame retardant fabric does not have much difference, but the flame retardant performance of the disposable flame retardant fabric will completely disappear or seriously decline after washing. The other two types of flame retardant fabric can withstand multiple times of washing while maintaining the flame retardant performance.
