Description

1. Definition

FR bib pants are a category of flame retardant workwear.

FR is the abbreviation of Flame Retardant. Bib pants, also known as bib overalls trousers, adopt the classic suspender bib design without independent waistband. Manufactured from flame resistant fabric, they provide reliable lower-body protection for workers exposed to sparks, transient flame and radiant heat in industrial hazardous areas.

2. Product Structure & Design Features

  • Bib design: Integrated front bib panel plus adjustable shoulder straps. The design eliminates waist tightness caused by frequent bending, squatting and stretching during manual operations.
  • Functional layout: Equipped with multi-purpose tool pockets, reinforced stitching at stress points such as crotch, knee and pocket edges.
  • Matching usage: Can be worn separately with flame retardant work shirts or jackets; widely combined as standard protective workwear sets.

3. Fabric & Flame Retardant Principle

Common raw materials include 100% cotton, cotton blend, CVC or modacrylic blended fabrics, treated with durable flame retardant finishing such as Proban, THPC and Pyrovatex.

When exposed to flame and high temperature, the fabric rapidly forms a carbonized protective layer to isolate oxygen, suppress flame propagation and achieve self-extinguishment after leaving fire sources.

Cotton-based materials carbonize instead of melting, avoiding molten drips that lead to secondary burns.

The flame retardant function remains effective after repeated industrial laundering, complying with EN 11612, NFPA 2112, GB 8965.

4. Core Performance

  1. Flame retardant safety performance

Blocks scattered sparks, transient flame contact and moderate thermal radiation, lowering thermal burn risks for the lower body.

  2. Physical wearing performance

Excellent abrasion resistance and tear strength to adapt to rough operation scenarios. Low shrinkage rate and stable dimension after washing, maintaining proper fit for long-term use.

  3. Ergonomic advantage

Adjustable shoulder straps allow flexible movement; the bib structure prevents the upper garment from sliding up and avoids exposed skin during work.

5. Advantages

  1. Humanized bib suspender design, greater freedom of movement than ordinary work trousers.
  2. Targeted flame protection for thighs, knees and hips, which are vulnerable to sparks.
  3. Multiple pockets facilitate tool storage for carpentry, machinery maintenance and construction work.
  4. Compatible with various FR tops to form complete flame retardant workwear sets.

6. Limitations

  1. Only provides lower-body protection; flame resistant upper garments are required for full-body safety.
  2. Flame retardant performance will degrade if washed with bleach or strong alkaline detergents.
  3. Thick heavyweight FR bib pants have relatively weaker air permeability in hot weather.

7. Application Scenarios

  • Protective bib pants for carpenters, welders, machinery maintenance operators
  • Workwear for petrochemical, oil & gas, metallurgy, construction and wood processing industries
  • Standard flame retardant workwear for workshops and construction sites with flame and spark hazards

8. Relevant Compliance Standards

  • Flame resistance: EN 11612, NFPA 2112, GB 8965
  • Fabric mechanical indicators: ISO 13934, ISO 13937
  • Color fastness: ISO 105 series
  • Dimensional stability: ISO 6330
  • Optional function: EN 1149 Anti-static standard

Hint: For the most accurate results, measure yourself in your undergarments.

Neck: Measure around the base of your neck, inserting your forefinger between the tape and your neck to allow ease in fit.

Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping tape firmly under your armpits and around your shoulder blades.

Waist: Measure around your waist, slightly below your natural waist, where you normally wear your pants. Insert your forefinger between the tape and your body to allow ease in fit.
